I am inspired by the quality of light, color, and composition in 17th century Dutch paintings; the forced perspective in natural history dioramas; and the lyrical beauty of Andy Goldsworthy's ephemeral sculpture. My work deals primarily with the psychological and physical manifestations of one's personal connection to place, and the often humorous intersections of science and daily life. I feel like a painter, but in the absence of skill with a painter's tools, I use my camera to brush into life my own powerful feelings, emotions and reactions to the world around me.

Catharine Stebbins' work has been featured in solo and group shows in Los Angeles , Boston and New York, is held in private collections, and was acquired in 2008 by 4Culture, a Seattle WA public art initiative. She currently lives and works in Altadena, CA
